Things don’t always go as planned, which might be one of the most exciting things about living on our planet.
Sometimes, something out of the ordinary is upsetting or even painful, but there are many times when something we thought would never happen makes us happy.
Alison Spooner and Dean Durrant look like a normal couple at first glance, but it turns out that their genes are a little bit different. This is clear because they had not just one set of twins but two sets of twins in total. This is impossible.
Dean, Alison’s boyfriend, is from the West Indies and has brown eyes and blonde hair. Alison has fair skin, blue eyes, and fiery red hair. Because of this, he has much darker hair, eyes, and skin. His hair and eyes are brown, and his skin is also dark.
When the couple found out they were going to have twins, their first thought was that the kids would have a mix of their personalities. But when Alison had Laura and Hayleigh in 2001, their parents were surprised by something they hadn’t expected.
Laura was a lot like her mother, having a fair complexion, blue eyes, and red hair. On the other hand, her twin sister was a lot like their father.
Alison, Dean, and their families were shocked when they heard the news. But, even though this doesn’t happen very often, it doesn’t mean it never happens.
Growing up wasn’t always easy for them because their parents had to answer questions and expressions of disbelief about how this could have happened, and the girls had to deal with questions from their peers at school. All of them had a hard time growing up because of this.
According to stories that quote a geneticist, there is a 1 in 500 chance that both twins will be of mixed race.
After seven more years, Alison found out she was having twins again. This time, it was with her second pregnancy.
When Alison was 37 weeks pregnant, her labor was sped up because doctors found that both of her babies were in the breech position. As soon as the babies were born, they were taken to intensive care because they had trouble breathing. Because of this, Alison and Dean could not see their children in a way that made them happy.
When they could finally look at their new babies, though, they knew they had beaten yet another set of odds. They were lucky to have another set of twins of different races.
Miya was born with darker features like her father and Lauren, while her little sister Leah had light skin and features like their mother, Alison.
Even nonidentical twins don’t happen very often, says Dr Sarah Jarvis of the Royal College of General Practitioners. CBS News got this information from a source.
“It’s even less likely for two eggs to be fertilized and have different colours, so for it to happen twice must be one in a million,” she said. “The odds must be one in a million.”
“There’s no easy way to say it all,” Dean, a happy dad, told CBS News in an interview. “I’m almost as far away as everyone else,” he said. “Even though the first ones happened 7Â years ago, I’m still amazed. It’s incredible.”
Leah and Miya both have two older sisters who help them and have been able to point them in the right direction despite the problems.
Leah told us, “Lauren and Hayleigh are the people I try to be like. I like my elder sisters. We want our lives to be just like theirs when we grow up.
The girls know they are lucky to have each other, and even though they look very different, they agree that they are also very similar in many other ways.
Hayleigh explained, “We finish each other’s sentences and say the same things at the same time.”
Sometimes I know exactly what’s going on in her mind.
Alison and Dean are fortunate to have been blessed in such a manner, yet, the universe operates in strange ways, so one thing is sure: they are lucky.
