When someone we care about disappoints us, it stings like hell.
The pain is magnified when we’re young, and our parents disappoint us. Children, like adults, don’t always have enough information to make sense of a situation, which may contribute to their feeling of uncertainty and, ultimately, their experience of disappointment.
And the hurt of being abandoned by someone you counted on to be there forever might linger for a long time. It can stay dormant, buried under the surface, for the rest of a person’s life.
Skylar, 7, begged her father to accompany her to her school’s annual daddy-daughter dance. He had failed to appear the previous year, leaving Skylar heartbroken and puzzled as to why she wouldn’t be able to go when all of her friends were.
Unfortunately, he made the same ruse again, this time disappointing his daughter for an occasion she was looking forward to.
Skylar’s mother, Trelysia Hamerter, told TODAY, “This year, she comes to me ahead of time and says, ‘Mommy, I want my dad to come with me to the dance.'”
“I’m not interested in Grandpa.” I’m looking for my father. “I want everyone to let know that I have a father.”
Trelysia reached out to her ex and asked him if he would accompany Skylar to the daddy-daughter dance, knowing how much it meant to her baby girl.
But in the days preceding the tragedy, there were indications that something terrible was about to happen. Skylar’s father would not pick up his phone or speak to anybody. Skylar had begun to accept that despite her best efforts, she was destined to be let down only one day before the dance.
On Facebook, Trelysia expressed her feelings of frustration with the issue.
When I realized I couldn’t help, I felt helpless and terrible. I’m not a boy,” she wrote.
However, there was a more trustworthy person in Skylar’s home, and his name was Christian. Christian was Skylar’s elder brother.
The narrative of Love What Matters states that when the little boy observed his sister crying, he realized he had no option but to take action.
Trelysia said Christian conversed with her, stating, “If he doesn’t appear, Mom, I’d want to take Skylar to the dance. She has the right to be told that a guy can be trusted to fulfill his promise and that she is one of a kind.
